Belgium soon became too small for the young Marlies Debacker, who - based in Cologne - is pushing the boundaries of piano music. Pseudo-electronic sounds, prepared piano, acoustic phenomena: Debacker uses and manipulates her instrument both in her own improvisations and in new works by well-known composers. Now that she is very briefly not on international tour with her own Trio Abstrakt or with ICTUS and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (‘Rain’), she gives a rare concert in her native country. Are we glad she is letting her brand-new sounds resonate in our century-old Concert Hall.
