Yun Duo, the ensemble of two musicians Huang Yunwen (violin/viola) and Huang Yunyu (violin), is a young and dynamic duo with a passion for chamber music, active in Europe and Asia. The group trained at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where they studied under the guidance of Prof Jensen Horn-Sin Lam. They then continued their studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where they were mentored by Prof Johannes Meissl of the Artis Quartet. They are currently studying chamber music concert exams at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen under the direction of Winfried Rademacher.
Since their foundation, they have organised several exclusive concerts and have been repeatedly invited to various major events, and in 2022 they were invited by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Austria and the City of Vienna to participate in the ‘China meet Austria’ art festival.
In addition, members of the Yun Duo have received guidance from various chamber musicians and teachers, including the Shanghai Quartet, the Hagen Quartet, the Artis Quartet and the Armida Quartet, as well as Prof Tim Frederiksen from the Royal Danish Academy of Music, Prof Ivan Chan from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
The Yun Duo's passion for chamber music and their committed musical interpretation have earned them the appreciation and sympathy of many listeners. They have won the second prize for chamber music of the first Hong Kong International Chamber Music Competition in 2014 and the first prize for chamber music of the Perusia Harmonica Competition in 2022, the Franz Schubert International Music Competition 2023 Gold Prize for Duet and a special recognition for their exceptional interpretation in the same competition.
The Chinese name ‘Yun’ means harmonious and pleasant sound. The choice of this name symbolises the common syllable ‘Yun’ in the names of the two members and at the same time refers to the search for unique nuances and rhythms in music. Yun Duo strives to bring music to a wider audience, ensuring a contribution to the development of Chinese chamber music, including arrangements of classical pieces. The ensemble aims to present Chinese music internationally, using chamber music as a ‘bridge’ to promote intercultural communication and cultural exchange.
